Mount Brown (2/1) benefitted from a drop in grade when winning Wexford's BetVictor Supporting Racing Maiden Hurdle, for previously unplaced horses, today scoring for trainer Noel Meade and jockey Eoin Walsh.

Fifth behind subsequent Grade 2 winner Flame Bearer in January, the son of Fulbright today easily beat runner-up Laffite by four and a quarter lengths, although gambled Gringo D'ainay (morning 15/2, returned 7/4 favourite) was unlucky, finishing third.

Gringo D'ainay raced in mid-division but met traffic trouble before the home turn and while he finished well, failed to ever land a blow.

Trainer Meade was at Leopardstown and winning jockey Walsh later said “it was a nice performance. He’d a nice run the last day and he stepped up again today.

“He handled the ground and galloped out well to the line. Hopefully he’ll keep progressing.”
