Fly Rory Fly the even-money favourite, got his head in front in the final furlong and saw off main market rival Polymath in the extended two mile five maiden hurdle in Downpatrick.

The runner-up was a 15/8 chance and couldn't respond so had to settle for second, beaten by three parts of a length. Sean Flanagan did the steering on the winner.

Trainer Noel Meade said: "He's lazy. I'd say he will probably be better jumping fences. He's a big horse but he does seem to handle the ground so I'd say we will keep going.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he does go over fences sooner rather than later. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out in that novice hurdle at Kilbeggan next week either. We'll see how he is when he comes home. He wants a a really good gallop, the quicker they go the better."
