Fisher makes impressive chase debut
A Kilbeggan meeting wouldn't usually be complete without a Noel Meade-trained winner and Fisher Bridge did the needful for Tu Va Stables when putting in a polished display on his chase debut under Paul Carberry in the Belvedere House Gardens & Park Beginners Chase.
The chestnut son of Singspiel led from the fifth and jumped well, the only slightly anxious moment for his supporters coming two out when Carberry in the words of Meade, "let him do his own thing."
However the 128-rated hurdler was able to coast up the run-in to see off fellow 5/2 joint favourite, Streets Of Gold by five lengths. Gamble of the contest Sanglote (6s into 7/2) ran short of room, clipped heels and slipped up due to general bunching going out on the last circuit.
Meade said afterwards: "He was a bit better than them over hurdles and he seems to have done that very well. I like to start them off round here as it can give them a bit of confidence over the small fences. He doesn't like real heavy ground and he'll probably have a rest now until the middle of the winter."
