Dee Capo bounced back from a below-par fifth on seasonal reappearance at Navan to sweep home in the bumper at Galway in the second leg of a Gordon Elliott double.
Harry Swan drove him on from Sattam with over a furlong and a-half to race and the Maxios gelding looked to have that rival beaten as they entered the final furlong.
The testing ground was tough going for these four-year-olds, but Dee Capo was kept up to his work by Swan to forge on by eight and a-half lengths at 10/3. River Robe (8/1) came through for second, without landing a glove on the winner, and was six-and-a-half-lengths clear of a tiring 13/8 favourite Sattam.
Swan said: "I'd say he definitely needed the run in Navan and is probably still a big baby. It worked out well, we went a nice gallop and he'll improve again off that.
"He is a big staying chaser and for those type of horses it often takes a couple of runs. I'm delighted with him and he'll probably go hurdling now - he might be a very nice horse."
Elliott took the preceding race on the card with Pats Choice ridden by Jack Kennedy.
