Recently on the mark in the Tetratema Cup at Gowran with Solomn Grundy, Sean Doyle and Jamie Scallan combined to win the Ballinaboola Mares Point-To-Point Flat Race at Wexford this afternoon through smart looking Westerner newcomer Love Envoi (9s into 8s).
Out of a good point-to-point mare in Love Divided, who did the O’Tooles proud, here Love Envoi showed a decent attitude to account for market-leader Miss Tempo by a length and three parts. Backinforglory didn’t get a clear run on the inner a furlong and a half out, keeping on well for third, a head back.
"We were going a little bit into the unknown. She is a real staying mare and Jamie gave her an absolutely super ride, the race worked out well,” said Doyle.
"Being by Westerner out of a King's Ride mare I just loved the cross. She is a big mare for the future. We ran her today, the ground was lovely and soft and she is a real winter mare. She was ready to run a few weeks ago, she is after coming back to herself really well and the horses are in great form.
"Her dam Love Divided was a real good point-to-point mare and I had the half-sister, Timeless Beauty, last year. She won a point-to-point and she won on the track, she is going to be a big chasing mare."
The Stewards reviewed an incident in the closing stages involving Fons Vivus ridden by Mr D. Allen, placed fifth and Miss Tempo, ridden by Mr D. Roche, placed second, where it appeared that they got close. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
The Stewards interviewed Mr D.M. Fitzgerald, rider of Denver City concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted that he was in breach of the rule and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that Mr. D. M. Fitzgerald was in breach of Regulation 10.3.I, time to respond. Having considered Mr. D. M. Fitzgerald's record in this regard the Stewards cautioned him on this occasion.
