Double up for O'Brien
Thomas Gainsborough and Seamie Heffernan led home a 1-2 for trainer Aidan O’Brien in the colts and geldings maiden over a mile, and in the process gave O’Brien a double at Leopardstown. Fatcatinthehat took the field along and as he turned into the home straight had his 18 rivals all off the bridle. It looked like he would hold on but in the last 50 yards stablemates Thomas Gainsborough and I Have A Dream collared him with the former prevailing by a short head in a head bobbing finish at 11/2.
Aidan O’Brien said: “Thomas Gainsborough was green the last day and I Have A Dream was very green on his first run. He was acting the maggot and didn’t run well enough to learn anything but he learned today.
“It’s only when they get into a battle that they start to learn. Seamus’s horse had a battle the last day and he benefited from that.
“Both of them were coming home well and they’ll be middle distance horses next year.”
I Have A Dream saw plenty of money from 13/2 in the money and also when he opened at 5/1 at the track. He was returned 10/3.
Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen teamed up with 3/1 favourite Golden Hill who finished fourth.
