Willie Byrne, on the mark at this venue last week on China’s Storm, struck again in the Kentucky Derby Qualifier At Dundalk February 28th Apprentice Handicap aboard Tio Esteban (16/1).
With a first-time hood on, the Willie Martin owned and trained gelding, was stepping up in trip for this mile and a half assignment.
Despite running freely the five-year-old proved well able for the twelve furlong test, taking over from a furlong and a half out on the way to a three length victory over Drummer
“It was his first time over a mile-and-a-half. We felt that he needed a step up in trip,” said Byrne.
“He kind of lost his way over a mile. He travelled really strongly there and when I asked him to pick up he picked up nicely.
“He definitely should win going a mile-and-a-half again. He's on a rating he's able to operate off.
“They put the hood on as we had to settle him a bit. He can take a hold over a mile.
“I got a bit of cover, he was nice and settled and finished out his race well.”
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined No Trouble trained by Noel C. Kelly, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
The Stewards informed J.F. O'Shea, trainer that Del Campo (GER), would have to be recertified before being declared to run from stalls again.
