Michael O'Callaghan's Red Letter Bray had to dig deep to gain back-to-back victories at Naas this afternoon.
The New Bay colt had struck over course and distance last month and went to post 7/4 favourite to repeat the feat.
Colin Keane tracked the eventual winner's stablemate King Of Scotia before asking his mount to challenge passing the two pole.
He had to work to gain a narrow advantage before the furlong marker and was all out to hold that rival by three-parts-of-a-length. Queenie St Clair also finished off well to press the leaders and was only denied by a nose for the runner-up spot.
The winner trainer was attending today's breeze-up sales in Doncaster and Keane said:-
“He did things a lot better for the first half and when he got there he idled. It’s a fair old slog (on the ground), it’s hard work.
“I do think he’ll be a nicer horse on nice ground because he’s a good moving horse. His ability helped him to get through it.”
