Bonnie Acclamation got a dream run through on the inside rail and stretched away from his rivals in the opening six furlong handicap at Leopardstown.
Ater showing very little in his three outings this season, the odds of 20/1 showed that Pat Flynn’s horse was dismissed by most punters. Only Patrickswell (last) went off at odds as big. Jembatt proved to be a solid favourite in the betting ring, backed down from 5/2 to 2/1, but the top weight with a welter 10 stone 5 on his back finished fifth.
However, seven pound claimer Danny Benson didn’t read the script and guided his charge home by a length and a half from Precious Dream (10/1) with Strike Action (7/1) in third. The two placed horses were both trained by David Wachman.
Danny Benson said: “That’s my 13th winner and my third for Pat Flynn. I decided to stay on the far rail. The gaps came and it worked out well. He loves that soft ground.”
The going was changed to soft before the first race.
The winner paid 40.50 euro on the Tote. He won two races at Listowel last September over six and a half furlongs, on heavy and soft ground.
