Trainer Liz Doyle used a few choice words to describe her Glen Beg which, not for the first time in her career, caused a 33/1 upset to win the Happy Birthday Dixie Reilly Handicap Hurdle at Naas today.
Ridden by capable claimer Kevin Sexton, the daughter of Norwich finished with a wet sail to edge a neck win over Wooly Tom
Glen Beg's only other win came in a Clonmel maiden hurdle last March and Doyle later revealed “she's an absolute cow! She tried to pull herself up one day with Jamie Codd in a bumper but trotted up in a maiden hurdle at Clonmel and she could do anything!
“The plan was to put her in foal next spring but you never know when these type of mares; once they strike a bit of form it might be best to keep them going.”
