Willie Mullins trained his 50th winner of the season when Samain the first horse he's handled for Gigginstown House Stud (they had a treble - their first - on the day with Tillahow and Joe Smooth landed the concluding Punchestown Pavillion (Pro-Am) INH Flat Race under Patrick Mullins.
Completing a double for Willie after his first race success with Flat Out Samain got the better of the promising newcomer Cairdin by a length and a quarter despite running green.
A 165,000 purchase at Doncaster back in May having finished runner-up in a bumper for Eddie Hales at Fairyhouse back in April, Samain is a son of Black Sam Bellamy who stands at Shade Oak Stud in Great Britain.
Mullins said: "He was very green in front which makes me believe he had plenty left in the locker. I'm not sure if he'll go for a winners bumper now or go jumping, I'll have to talk to the owner."
Samain got a 33/1 quote for the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham from Stan James.
