Champion Bumper
20/1 Champagne Jury (intro) after winning a bumper at Naas on Sunday
Trainer quote: He’s a fine big horse and got through that ground well. He looks a big chaser in the making. We don’t have him that long, about six or eight weeks, and he should progress again. I’m not sure what we’ll do with him now, and going for a maiden hurdle might not be the worst idea as he can go chasing sooner rather than later. (Gavin Cromwell)
Albert Bartlett
20/1 Ballybow (from 50/1) after winning a Maiden Hurdle at Naas on Sunday
Jockey quote: He’s done that very well today. I suppose you could write off his first run where he clipped the heel of a loose horse. His last run was good, and he loved that ground today. (Sam Ewing)
Mares’ Chase
6/1 Bioluminescence (from 8/1) after finishing 2nd in a 3m Novice Chase at Naas on Sunday
Trainer quote: I thought she ran very well with the 8lb penalty. It was a good solid run, and she was beaten by a very good horse. She loves that ground. She won her point-to-point in Boulta on soft gound and she finds it very easy. She jumps real well and is a very big mare, she’s 17 hands or more. She’ll definitely have an entry for the Mares’ Chase, and we’ll take it from there. (Gavin Cromwell)
Brown Advisory
9/2 Dancing City (from 5/1) after winning a 3m Novice Chase at Naas on Sunday
Trainer quote: Paul said he’s so settled, he’s exactly what you’d want for a three-mile chaser. He gallops and jumps, and only does what he’s asked to do. I was very pleased with the performance in what is very, very testing ground. He looks like one for the Brown Advisory. (Willie Mullins)
Champion Hurdle
8/1 Anzadam (from 10/1) after winning the Limestone Lad Hurdle at Naas on Sunday (Grade 3)
Trainer quote: That was a very good performance. Paul gave him a squeeze after the last and he quickened away nicely. There was no sign of him stopping. He has a good engine and is climbing up the tree nicely. He could be anything. He’s in the Champion Hurdle, but maybe we should wait for Aintree. That looks appealing and he’s still only five. The jump he put in at the third last I thought was extraordinary and showed me that we’ll have no trouble going novice chasing with him when we want. We’ll see how far we can go with hurdling and see what his owners would like to do. (Willie Mullins)
Kim Muir
12/1 Answer To Kayf (from 20/1) after winning a Novice Handicap Chase at Naas on Sunday
Trainer quote: I suppose heavy ground makes a huge difference and a drop in class. It just goes to show how good those beginners' chases are as he couldn’t get a blow in. We’re hoping to go to Cheltenham with him, but I suppose the handicapper is going to give him a fair lump for that. The 2m4f novice handicap chase is the only one he can run in. There is a 3m5f novice as well, but you have to be in the first four over three miles and he hasn’t run over three miles. The owners are thrilled and get a great buzz out of it. This has been a dream horse for them. At the end of the year an Irish National might not be out of the question. (Terence O'Brien)
Mares’ Novice Hurdle
12/1 Aurora Vega (from 33/1) after winning a Mares Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Saturday
Trainer quote: It looked a big improvement to me, I was really taken by that performance. I thought she’d come on a lot from the last day, I wasn’t expecting that out of her. She looked like one that you’d maybe want to keep for the Grade 1 mares hurdle here at Easter. That would be foremost in my mind at the moment. Baby Kate (sixth) disappointed me a little bit with her performance there. (Willie Mullins)
Triumph Hurdle
4/1 East India Dock (from 6/1) after winning the Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2) at Cheltenham on Saturday
Trainer quote: He’s a lovely horse with a big future and he’s got to have put his foot back in the door for March now. From a horse coming off the Flat he is just so economical, he’s not keen, he settles and he’s handled that New course just as well as he did the Old (course, in November). I wouldn’t be swapping him for anything and he’s a lovely horse. What a privileged position we’re in and Sam has gone out there and given him a good positive ride, he wanted to go out and make the running and he knows what he’s doing. He’s probably been more economical there than he was the last day when he was a bit flashy, but that is probably down to Sam holding on to him and the ground. He loves to jump and comes alive at a hurdle. (James Owen)
Turners Novice Hurdle
16/1 Sixmilebridge (from 40/1) after winning a Grade 2 Novices‘ Hurdle at Cheltenham on Saturday
Trainer quote: We’ve always thought he was a lovely horse and we were very disappointed when he got beat on his hurdling debut at Stratford as he’s always worked great. Big credit to Kielan and to Max Kendrick who rides him every day as he’s not an easy horse, he’s very hot as you can see. It’s just about getting his mind right. The plan will be to come back for the Festival, that’s what the Megsons are in the game for and they have some lovely horses. They put a lot into the sport so deserve to have a horse like this. (Fergal O’Brien)
Stayers’ Hurdle
12/1 Gowel Road (from 25/1) after winning the Cleeve Hurdle (Grade 2) at Cheltenham on Saturday
Trainer quote: He deserved that and he’s finished second in four races before today. The handicapper has been hard on him all season, but now he’s won a race which is good. It’s a lovely race to win and this is smashing. He’ll definitely have to go to the Stayers’, any idea of going for the Pertemps Final is gone now. You had to come here confident and on ratings he wasn’t far out. Crambo never runs well here, he was top-rated and I thought we had a very good chance. (Nigel Twiston-Davies)
Ryanair Chase
12/1 Stage Star (from 33/1) after finishing 2nd in the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase on Saturday at Cheltenham
Trainer quote: The step up in trip suited him as he was able to travel. In those handicaps, when you’re carrying 12st and have everyone behind you, you’re out of your comfort zone, so that was brilliant to do that today and he’s got every bit of the trip — he galloped all the way to the line. It’s a shame it wasn’t level weights. I didn’t put him in the Gold Cup. While he might run a nice race in the Gold Cup, he isn’t going to win a Gold Cup so we’re going to keep him fresh I suppose for the (Aintree) Bowl. There’s nothing else for him really as he has to go left-handed, a lot of horses will have hard races at Cheltenham and there’s 19 days between the two. That was a really good run today and we’re thrilled. (Paul Nicholls)
Gold Cup
16/1 L’Homme Presse (from 25/1) after winning the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase on Saturday at Cheltenham
Trainer quote: I’m pleased to get this race in the bag. We’ll see about March and it’s one step at a time, but I’m pleased with that. I think the ground could prove quite relevant in March because he wasn’t getting tired last year and the others only got on top on the way to the line, I don’t think staying the trip will be a problem for him. Everyone has built up the Irish as unbeatable and then the entry came from Britain and it was depleted. I think a lot of that is because people get frightened, but at the end of the day it’s who wins the race on the day and you don’t even know if all the main protagonists will get there in one piece. I’m quite surprised we’re one of the leading British contenders, but we’ll see in March. (Venetia Williams)
