Laws Of Spin overcame a nine months absence to open his account under Shane Foley in the Tote Super Pick 6 Guarantee Every Sunday Handicap at Ballinrobe.
The Willie Mullins-trained gelding showed promise last year when runner-up in a maiden at the Listowel Festival, and went one better here despite taking a walk in the market.
The 7/1 chance headed Kandahari a furlong out but that rival stuck to her task well and there was just half a length between the pair at the line. Fire Tree was prominent throughout but could find no extra in the straight finishing another four and a half lengths adrift in third.
Foley said, “He enjoyed the ground (officially good), and on some of his two-year-old runs he was entitled to win.
“He got to the front a bit sooner than I wanted. It was his first run in a long time but he toughed it out well in fairness to him.”
