Declan Queally is expecting big things from Gatsby Grey as the jockey/assistant-trainer seeks a sale for the five year old gelding, following his win in the concluding Racing Again March 22nd (Pro/Am) Bumper at Navan today.
The French-bred son of Waldpark was a non-runner, when reported to have had a temperature, for another bumper at the same venue last month and today justified market support (returned 11/2) when foiling another newcomer The Carpenter (12/1 — 6s) by a length.
Queally, whose father and namesake holds the trainers' license, later reported “that's brilliant. I own him myself with my good friend Michael Ryan. I've had a lot of sleepless nights because when you know a horse is good there is a lot of pressure running him.
“Thankfully it's paid off and he'll be sold now, hopefully to go to big connections. He's a nice horse.”
