Janey begins in good style
Jim Bolger, twice successful in the opener at the Curragh in recent years, introduced a potentially smart juvenile in the shape of Janey Muddles in the Stay at the Brandon Hotel Tralee European Breeders Fund Maiden under Kevin Manning.
This 260,000 Euro yearling was produced from off the pace by Manning in the familiar June Judd colours, getting up to nail Belle Passe near the finish. Favourite Remember Alexander could manage only fourth. She half missed the break, was then rousted up to get a position by Johnny Murtagh but ultimately she couldn't raise her effort when required.
Jim Bolger said: "Janey Muddles is a very smart filly. We'll see how she comes out of this but the Cheveley Park in October would be a long-term target."
Janey Muddles is by first-season sire Lawman. That Ballylinch Stud-based horse (that County Kilkenny nursery also bred Janey Muddles) has already had two winners from his first crop - Seven Year Itch at Catterick and Pestagua in France.
Before today he was a 14/1 chance in the Stan James list of freshmen sires to have the highest number of individual winners in Great Britain and Ireland.
