Hogan doubles-up with a second 1-2 at Dundalk

Trainer Denis Hogan completed his second 1-2 of the evening at Dundalk today as bargain buy Miqdaad (8/1) led home stablemate Expound to win the View Restaurant At Dundalk Stadium Apprentice Maiden.

Hogan's Sky Legend had earlier beaten stablemate Darkened to win the claimer, with Miqdaad and Expound doubling his score when passing the line a head apart.

Winner Miqdaad was ridden to score by Hugh Horgan and Hogan reported “Miqdaad only cost me a thousand guineas in the October horses in training sale. I just thought he hadn't run that badly in his one run (at Yarmouth) and while he had had a fracture when with Godolphin, we took a punt on him.

"He's a cheap horse, but he'll cover some of the better ones."

"Mike O'Brien (owner) jumped at him straight away and I'm delighted for too as he is a year without a winner. He's a good owner and he always supports me for three or four horses. He keeps buying new ones, so he deserves a winner.”

Regarding runner-up, and 5/4 favourite, Expound, he added: "I was disappointed with him as he has had a million chances, he is frustrating and the boys (Corner House Syndicate) came all the way from Cork.

"We'll see but we might go jumping with him."
