Nineteen runners around the chase track at Ballybrit is always quite a spectacle and the Colm Quinn BMW Handicap Chase also served up a rousing finish as Baby Whizz (equipped with cheek-pieces for the first-time) got there to the delight of favourite backers.
A win for the J P McManus-owned 5/1 shot looked unlikely on the turn-in as he was under pressure with plenty still in front of him.
However Mark Walsh conjured up a terrific finishing burst from the now five time winner, short-headed at Killarney on his most recent start, by another winner on tonight's card, Valours Minion
Baby Whizz eventually got there by three parts and the same from Georgie and All Fired Up
"He is a monkey but on a going day he is well able to do it. In fairness he was game and tough today because I got into a lot of trouble after the last fence but when the gaps came he flew up the hill and got me out of trouble," reported Walsh after his success on Tom Mullins' charge.
"He is improving the whole time and hopefully he will keep going like that."
Unfortunately we had a fatality here after Bunnenaugh was brought down at the fourth last.
D.N. Russell, rider of Red Or White (GB) trained by James Daniel Dullea, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled during this race and was pulled up.
Edward Stanners, trainer of Carlos Fandango reported to the Clerk of Scales that his charge choked in running. (DM & EM)
