I think we were a bit fortunate but having said that, he deserved his day in the sun as he had been ultra consistent and finished second in three Flat races this year. There might be one more race for him if the ground stays good but his time of year is coming to an end.

He got his head in front at last. He’s a horse that never runs a bad race but for some reason he gets beaten. He gave an exhibition (of jumping) apart from the last. He’s still a maiden over hurdles and is rated about 20lb better off before today over hurdles so you’d imagine he should be able to win a handicap hurdle. He has lots of options and can go back on the Flat as well.

He is named a friend of mine who 'slipped' all the greyhounds at the coursing in Clonmel and was a great character. I had many's a good night with him and when he passed away a couple of years ago, I asked his wife could I call a horse after him. I love naming my horses after characters I've met and my winner yesterday Pat Coyne (at Tramore) is named after a man from Galway. The Banger Doyle was a very promising bumper horse and this is his game. That win now gives us options on good ground for the summer and we'll potter around with him in novice chases for the summer. He was bold and brave to jump but it wasn't good for the heart over the last two.

He’s been a consistent horse and has run every race to the line. I’m more than happy to get that for John (Nicholson, owner/breeder). He’s had five bumpers so he deserves a break now. He’s as tough as nails. We have been nearly forced to run him as he’s been so well.
