He's a real three-mile chaser, very athletic. In Cheltenham and Punchestown, he had blinkers on and perhaps that was a contributing factor to me falling off him and him falling. Every jump you just have to be forward into it. A three-mile chaser you should be able to get into a rhythm and let them pop away. He was brilliant today and fantastic for Downpatrick to put on this prize. Billaway won here four years ago, his first hunters' chase and he has been to Cheltenham and Punchestown, and it is great to come back here again. He has been a super horse, he has been sound and on the go five or six years. He has gone to Cheltenham and he has gone to Aintree, which he didn't like, and he has been here and Down Royal. Any owner would be proud to have him and John Turner really enjoys him.

He needs to improve a bit, I think, to retain his championship in England but we'll hope for the best. I was always going to win. He always steps at one every year in this race. I'm glad I didn't fall off, it would have been quite embarrassing if I did. I was always going to win but he is just getting older and I don't know if it's wiser or lazier but anyway, he won! He keeps me fit anyway. He is a brilliant jumper but just once in every race he loses concentration, that's just him. We put a tongue-tie on him today, maybe that wasn't the right thing to do, maybe he resented it, but I thought on the first lap that I was travelling very sweetly. I wouldn't mind putting a pair of blinkers on him, I don't know if Willie thinks the same. We'll have to consider it I think. He is not getting any younger and it's going to be hard to go back and win at Cheltenham. I think there is only one or two horses in the yard that have won more races than he has. He has given everyone lots of sport and will be very hard to replace. I was only bopping away on him and I'm even regretting hitting a slap or two, I just wasn't sure if the horse on the inside was coming with a run, I just couldn't quite see. There was more there. Once he got up against the rail and I got my stick in my left hand, he won better than it looked.

He is (hard work). He has a fabulous record in these races, he just has momentary lapses in concentration but in fairness to him he always finds a leg. There was one down the back where he just stepped out of my hands. We were lucky that the Christie horse made a mistake at the last as well as us. He's kind of always just doing enough. Fair play to him.

Patrick kidded Billaway around there and the aim has been to win this race with him for three years. He’s come close twice and now he’s done it. Patrick never gave up and it’s unfortunate for David Christie (trainer of Winged Love) as it would have been a huge victory for him. As much as I love winning, I’m sorry for David because I know what it’s like losing in the last stride and it’s his Gold Cup as a big pointing man. We went for the cheekpieces as he’s idle. I’m delighted for Patrick and John and Michelle Turner (owners), it’s a race we’ve both been desperate to win. Although it might cost John a bit to fill the trophy as it’s the biggest one of them all!

He did that very efficiently, very well. I couldn't find fault in anything the horse did there, he galloped and jumped and did everything you'd want. It's a great prep for next month. He needed it badly the first day and I had to get a run into him. I was hoping it wouldn't backfire here today and it didn't, it brought him on enough. Everything went according to plan. The second horse ran very well too, he's running in a grade above what he should be running in. I wanted to get racecourse experience into him and that worked out. I'll probably keep him at home and try and win a maiden hunters chase with him. I'll be aiming him towards Fairyhouse or Punchestown.

he seemed to hit a flat spot again today and then came back on it although his jumping is getting much quicker. In Cheltenham last year we weren't losing ground, but we weren't making any ground at every fence whereas the winner (It Came To Pass) was. I think the extra experience he has this year will shorten the gap, hopefully. I think he is still improving and I think he is a better horse this year than last year. I think his jumping is getting slicker. That's what he needed to do, so he is doing it. There's no Leopardstown, so he'll go to Thurles at the end of January.

He’s booked his ticket and is still a young horse. He looks a Foxhunters type and that’s what we bought him for.

The owner John Turner has a few nice horses with me including Tornado Flyer who hopefully we will have back for Punchestown. We said we would buy this fellow for a bit of fun hunter chasing and he can progress from there up to Fairyhouse or Punchestown, probably Fairyhouse I'd say. He was very lazy there and he's learning about racing slowly, and I think his jumping has improved. I think he could be a nice hunter chaser for the future for some of the big tracks. Hopefully a nice fun horse for John.
