Review sligo 28th Sep
< Ardglen s bid to land an impressive fourth win in nine days was thwarted in the Foley's Bar & Off Licence Handicap Chase at Sligo, with Eddie O'Connell producing City Of Doral (5-1) at the final flight to record an across-the-card double for trainer Jimmy Lambe.
Shark Hanlon 's thriving Ardglen attempted to make all but recent exertions caught up with him and the winner, who had been held up last early on, went on to score by 12 lengths.
Experience told in the Strandhill Mares Beginners Chase as Our Victoria (7-2) and Andrew McNamara out-fought Stephanie Kate up the run-in after the latter made a race-defining mistake at the last.
Colin Bowe's winner dug deep close home and managed to hold the favourite half a length at bay.
The contest was marred by the loss of Brave Beauty who suffered a fatal fall, but trainer Gordon Elliot was soon given something to smile about when Traffic Article obliged as odds-on favourite in the Martin Reilly Motors Hyundai i40 Chase.
Ruby Walsh was made to work harder than odds of 8-11 suggested he might after dictating a steady pace throughout. Kakagh laid down a challenge when the pair turned in but the son of Definite Article was game in front and held on by half a length.
Walsh was soon back in the winner's enclosure after a masterful ride on Give Us A Hand (15-8 favourite) in the Frank O'Beirne Memorial Beginners Chase.
Easily Pleased was spring-heeled at the fourth-last, soon putting daylight between himself and his rivals, but Walsh worked his mount into contention and went on to win by 15 lengths.
The Cecil Ross-trained Westmeath Bachelor (11-2) took advantage of a mistake two-out by Second Glance in the Cleveragh Road Handicap Chase, while Leggy Lad (12-1) landed a gamble in the Sligo I.T. Student Day At Sligo Races Beginners Chase for the McConville family.
