Review leopardstown 17th Jun
< Rose Hip demonstrated a nice turn of foot to swoop late and fast in the Nijinsky Stakes at Leopardstown.
Sent off a 12-1 chance for trainer Joseph Murphy and jockey Chris Hayes, the mare was content to sit in the pack as Sebastian Flyte set out to make all.
He looked to have stolen the advantage as he was still in front turning for home, but as Hayes switched to the outside down the straight, Rose Hip began to fly.
She collared the long-time leader inside the final furlong, pulling a couple of lengths clear before digging deep to repel the late challenge of 7-4 favourite Shintoh by a length and a quarter.
Murphy said: "She's very good. We have her in the Pretty Polly Stakes, it might be a step too far for her but on that win she's entitled to take her chance.
"She's 5lb better here than anywhere else."
Hayes was completing a double after scoring on 20-1 Money Trader in the Foxrock Handicap earlier on the card
Winning handler Jim Gorman said: "The plan was to run here and then maybe go for the Scurries next weekend.
"I'm not sure what we'll do now as he stayed so well, we'll look for something over Derby weekend."< Skyway (11-2) showed plenty of guts to catch Smart Striking in the shadow of the post and gain a neck verdict in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.
"It's great for the owner who is in the Mater Hospital at the moment so this will really cheer him up," said trainer Dick Brabazon.< Looking Lovely (4-6 favourite), a half-sister to five-time Group One winner Duke Of Marmalade, struck gold at the second time of asking in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.
Trained by Aidan O'Brien, the juvenile made short work of her eight rivals, triumphing by a comfortable two and a half lengths for Colm O'Donoghue.
