Review clonmel 28th Feb
The Clonmel Beginners Chase proved a dramatic affair as Quartetto found a second wind to deny favourite Darby's Turn in a thriller.
Andrew Lynch seemed to be going far the better on the latter from some way out as the pair had the race between them, and at the second-last it looked all over.
But Darby's Turn emptied dramatically after the final fence and Quartetto - backed from 11-4 into 9-4 - rallied in the gamest fashion for Michael Darcy to snatch the spoils by three-quarters of a length.
Winning trainer Mervyn Torrens had seen his 2-1 favourite Macidoni fall at the last hurdle with a circuit to go in the previous race, and was relieved the journey from County Tyrone was not a wasted one.
He said: "It's a long way to have two fallers!
"It has taken this fellow a bit of time to get the hang of jumping fences, but he actually schools quite well at home.
"He's probably not in love with ground that heavy and we will try and find a novice for him now, we've no big plans."
