Preview clonmel 21st Feb
Testing conditions are expected at Clonmel for a seven-race card on Thursday, and the most interesting race of the day is the Munster Hurdle.
Unika La Reconce holds a couple of Cheltenham Festival entries and the Willie Mullins-trained French import looked a smart performer in the making when slamming subsequent winner Speckled Wood at Thurles in December.
Big things are clearly expected of her but Rye Martini impressed when winning on his Tipperary debut back in the autumn and he, along with Listed bumper winner Anonis, are bright prospects in their own right.
Racing gets under way at 2.25 with the Clonmel Maiden Hurdle where Mullins could be the man to follow once more, this time with Flat recruit Security Breach, winner of a 1m4f maiden at Tramore in the summer.
Canaly failed to give his running in a valuable handicap at Leopardstown last month but he had impressed in winning a couple of races previously and should ensure the Mullins-trained Immediate Response doesn't have things all his own way as he bids to back up his recent Limerick romp in the Powerstown Chase.
The Demesne Maiden Hurdle provides Blazing Sonnet with a good opportunity to record a first success over timber following a string of fine efforts in defeat, although Tabac Brun and Un Beau Roman should give her plenty to think about.
Franchoek returns from nearly three years off in the Bishop Auckland Theatre Hooligans Novice Handicap Chase and would be a popular winner but Mazuri Cowboy and Clashnabrook arrive fit and in good form so appeal as more solid propositions.
Those looking to recoup any losses in the day's finale, the Suir (QR) Handicap Hurdle, might be best advised to hold fire as many of these come into it out of sorts. Only Fiery Oscar and Super Vic appeal on recent form, although a big-priced winner would not surprise.
