Wijikura impresses in opener
The opening Railway Bar 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle at Roscommon saw an easy winner in the Louise Curling trained Wijikura in the hands of Davy Russell.
Russell who led for most kicked clear after three out and kept on strongly from the last to record an easy six length winner.
It was a particular good win for Russell who was carrying his father Jerry’s colour to victory.
Sam Curling who was representing the trainer said afterwards: “He has done loads of schooling and jumps well.”
“Martin Ferris did most of the schooling while Davy was out injured and a lot of the credit should go to him.”
“He’ll probably go back on the flat now or there’s a winners race at Killarney he could go for.”
