Wicklow doubles up at Navan
Wicklow Lad has really blossomed this season and continued in the form of his life when completing a Navan double in the valuable novice handicap chase this afternoon.
Francis Flood 's charge has got the hang of chasing this term and registered his third success of the campaign when sweeping through on the run-in to land the €47500 contest.
A winner over 2m1f here last month the step up to three miles today proved no problem as he stormed home at the business end.
Adrian Heskin got his mount into contention at the second last but looked held in third going to the last as Ad Idem appeared in control.
The son of Silver Patriarch found another gear on the run-in, however, as he put his head in front to record a seven-length success over the 3/1 favourite.
"We weren't sure about the trip but he got it well in the end," said Flood afterwards.
"We thought it was worth trying as he always finishes his races well. It was a good pot today so was well worth trying.
"He has kept on improving and handles soft ground very well. He wouldn't be as effective on better ground."
There are no immediate plans for the winner although the Irish National could be on the cards.
