Mulgrave landed a gamble at Dundalk today as the three year old scored on his first run for trainer John McConnell in the Find Us On Facebook @dundalkstadium Handicap (div I) under jockey Donagh O'Connor.
The son of Mehmas attracted eight claims on his previous course run in a September Claimer, with McConnell winning the draw and purchasing him for €5,000.
Reappearing today, Mulgrave was backed form 16/1 this morning, was returned a 5/1 chance and in the race won eased-down by a length and a quarter from Wychwood Whisper
McConnell later reported “we thought he'd run well as he had been working well but we were a little bit worried about the trip (a mile). He had shown form at different trips but probably this intermediate trip suits him lovely and the tongue-strap helped him.
“He's a nice big horse and he's probably only coming to himself. Hopefully we can have a lot more fun with him over the winter.
“He'll probably be knocked out of the 45-65s now.”
