Ask Dad continued a good recent run for trainer Damian English when landing a touch in the Dundalk Stadium Apprentice Handicap.
The six-year-old gelding was reappearing after a near seven-month break but was well-supported in the market to record his fifth career win.
Available at 16/1 this morning, the son of Intikhab was backed on track from 10/1 into 6/1 and duly justified the confidence.
Donagh O’Connor’s mount challenged over a furlong out and kept on well under pressure to deny Oor Jock by a neck, with Shinyhappyjohn a length and a quarter back in third.
English said, “He’s been leading the two-year-olds since January, and ran well here in a schooling race.
“He’s done a lot of stall work and yet he still reared up today. It was a great ride by Donagh, and he’ll go to Naas on the 25th.”
The north Co. Dublin trainer has sent out four winners in the past three weeks.
