The Dermot Weld trained and Aga Khan owned Sarafiyla readily justified 4/5 favouritism in the opening Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden at Leopardstown today, winning well under Pat Smullen.
Weld was providing the Aga Khan with a sixth winner of 2014 and afterwards the trainer stated “she handled the ground and is a fit filly so we decided to make use of that and keep things simple.
“The form was there to see as Michael Halford's filly won yesterday (Sea Coast). Maybe she could go a little bit further.”
Winning owner Aga Khan had been in the news in recent days with the delivery of his new £200m super-yacht named after the John Oxx trained Alamshar.
The win was Weld's 50th Flat winner of 2014.
