Vastonea surprises Prendergast
Kevin Prendergast's second string Vastonea stayed on best to provide a 20/1 upset in Leopardstown's seven furlong colts and geldings maiden under Sam James.
Prendergast also trained the 6/4 favourite Giants Serapis who came home third. He advised that the Giants Causeway colt didn't like the soft ground.
Of the winner, Prendergast said: "We didn't think he had done enough at home before this race but evidently he had.
"He is by Verglas and most of those horses prefer easy ground and win in France. He is probably a decent horse in the making." Sportsmaster from the Andrew Oliver yard split the Prendergast pair in second place at 13/2.
