Fulminata grabbed her second success at the Listowel festival when winning well in the mile handicap.
Killian Hennessy, Jim Bolger’s seven-pound claimer, was given the leg-up today and he brought the filly into contention at the two furlong marker. The pair then forged on from That’s Plenty (10/1) to beat that rival by an eased-down length to reward favourite backers at 5/2.
Jim Bolger’s travelling head lad Ger Flynn commented: “It’s great to get two wins in a week with her. It’s great for Ballylinch Stud as she’s a Holy Roman Emperor filly. She’s a very tough, genuine filly. Killian did everything right on her. He is from Youghal, Co Cork and works hard and keeps his head down. He has a long way to go, but he’s going the right way.”
Killian Hennessy added: “I was confident as she won well on Monday. She travelled really well. I’ve been with Jim Bolger for two and a half years. He’s very fair. That’s my fourth winner. I wasn’t into racing, but after my leaving cert I went to Jim Bolger’s for the summer and haven’t looked back.” Lord Jim (12/1 to 8/1) came in third under Ben Dawson a neck in front of recent Laytown winner Toufan Express at 14/1. Sixteen horse went to post in this contest.
Fulminata and Kevin Manning won by six lengths in a Listowel maiden over a mile on Monday. She carried the mandatory five-pound winners’ penalty today.
Pat Shanahan who trains the runner-up That’s Plenty had mentioned before the race that he was very worried about the ground as all his form had come on top of the ground so this was a creditable effort.
The gambled-on Pyromaniac (14/1 to 6/1) didn't land a blw today coming in 13th.
