Tri Na Ceile saw off Tigroney to land the opening mares' maiden hurdle in Kilbeggan for trainer Jessica Harrington.

The daughter of Galileo made her move to track Tigroney after the third last. She was ridden on the bend approaching the second last and picked up the lead after jumping that flight on terms with Tigroney.

Barry Geraghty sent her on and once she popped the last she kept on to post a four and three quarter length victory in this extended two mile three contest.

She was returned the 11/8 favourite from an opening show of 7/4. Runner-up Tigroney was a 7/2 chance. It was a further seven lengths back to 25/1 outsider Barbalicious in third. Coffee Cantata the 3/1 second favourite, was pulled up injured after the fourth last when still well in contention. It was later reported that this was a fatal injury.

Barry Geraghty said: "She battled well. I suppose she had the experience but it was hard enough work for her. It was probably as quick as she would want it. She definitely stays well. It's good summer ground, it's safe."

Jessica Harrington added: "She stuck at it well. She looked like she was going to make heavy weather of it for a while but she did it very well in the end.

"We'll keep her to the mares races. She likes that ground or maybe a bit more yielding."
