Toasted Special escapes from sandwich at Leopardstown
Former Kildare footballer Willie McCreery was on the mark at Leopardstown this evening when his Toasted Special arrived late under star apprentice jockey Gary Carroll, to win the opening Dalkey Fillies Handicap at Leopardstown this evening.
Toasted Special, a daughter of Johannesburg, raced prominently throughout, and although she was short of room in between horses inside the final furlong, Carroll extracted the filly from the difficult position to force her ahead at the line, for a neck success over Allegra Tak
McCreery, who played on the Kildare team which reached the 1998 All-Ireland football final, was not present for the win, his tenth since taking out his trainer's license just two seasons ago.
