Cristy's Call was the third big priced winner of the evening at Dundalk today, scoring a 16/1 upset in the Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey & Trainer Championship Handicap (div 2) for trainer Lester Winters.
The winner quickened well in the closing stages under capable claimer Shane Gray, and Winters later reported “that's a surprise to say the least!
“Cristy's Call needs a sound surface which he didn't have earlier this year but he wasn't beaten too far in his two runs here before over 1m2f - on those runs he was entitled to be involved. I've no particular plans but we're only 20 minutes away from here so we'll be coming here again.”
The winner is owned by Frank Lynch, a local accountant and hotelier who was on the last Louth team to win a football All-Ireland in 1957.
Gray subsequently received a two day suspension for careless riding.
