The Mouse Doctor gained his first Irish hurdle win at Navan today as the Tony Martin trained helding landed the Download The BarOneRacing Ladies Handicap Hurdle under jockey Aine O'Connor.
Carrying the colours of Martin's Melbourne Cup runner-up Heartbreak City, for the Here For The Craic Syndicate, The Mouse Doctor had previously won four times on the flat and just once, at Musselburgh, from 10 career attempts over hurdles.
Today was produced with a well-timed ride from O'Connor to score a length and three parts win over Mandarin Monarch
Trainer Martin later stated “he won well. I suppose on his last couple of runs he was entitled to do that. He loves the good ground, it probably didn't suit a lot of the others but it suited him.
“Over the years he's had a lot of issues so it's grand to get a good day out of him like that.
“He's in a Flat race at Listowel on Thursday but we might rest on today as we're not having too many. He gave himself a good old cut there behind as well.”
