Just the three runners went to post for the Thurles Racecourse Beginners Steeplechase over an extended two and a-quarter miles and it was Philip Rothwell's That's About Right who sprang a shock at 5/1. Boldog went off 2/13 favourite and he built up a commanding advantage over his two rivals despite not being entirely fluent throughout.
He traded very short in running, but That's About Right began to reduce the deficit after the second-last fence.
Boldog was still clear jumping the last, but it soon became apparent that he was running on fumes (burst blood vessels) and he tied up on the run-in as That's About Right and Daniel King surged past him in the closing stages to actually win going away by two and a half lengths.
Among the four non-runners was the Willie Mullins pair of Mistergif and Western Diego due to the going.
This was That's About Right's second crack at fences having finished third over further in a beginners' chase at this track last week.
King said: "It was only his second run over fences, but he jumped really well and hit the line well. I was probably a bit fortunate (runner-up burst blood vessels), but it was nice to win. He is a nice horse going forward.
"It was a spare ride as James O'Sullivan got injured this morning, so it is nice to get the call up on this lad."
