Sunwake wins Naas opener
Paul Carberry's absence, due to failing a breathalyser test prior to racing, proved the talking point prior to the running of the Naas Annual Membership Maiden Hurdle today, a race which saw his intended mount Prima Vista run out an unlucky third, to Paul Gilligan's Sunwake
Carberry's failure to pass an alcohol breathalyser test meant Emmet Mullins replaced the jockey on the 4/6 favourite, but the gelding failed to pick up in time to catch the front running Sunwake, partnered by Andrew Lynch, and eventual runner-up Spot Hill eventually finishing a short-head and neck third.
Afterwards, Sunwake's trainer Paul Gilligan reported “Sunwake was having her last run of the year today and will be left off now. She is a nice mare to look forward to again next summer but she is big and raw at present.”
