Steel Bull wins well on debut

The Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Maiden went to Steel Bull (2/1) who had two and a half lengths to spare over the 8/11 favourite Dense Star
Michael O’Callaghan’s newcomer, by Clodovil, was a little slowly into stride, but was soon tracking the leaders. He picked up well as they met the rising ground to lead 1f out and stride clear.
Always respected with his juvenile runners, O’Callaghan had acquired the horse from the breeze-up sales less than a month ago, so this was a very prompt return on his investment.
Winning rider Roche said: “Mike bought him at the breeze-ups off Andrew Lynch who had liked him all along.
“He was showing us plenty at home, ability wise, but we didn't know whether he was fit enough.
“He's done it very well and will improve a lot from that race. He's one to look forward to.
“He's a very straight-forward horse. He travels, settles, and when you ask him to pick up he picks up, puts his head down and gallops to the line.
“He was still a little bit raw. Out of the gates it took him a few strides to get going but when he did he put the race to bed and hit the line very well.”
