Good things come to those that wait, and connections of Some Drama on start number nineteen, having begun at Gowran way back in April 2011, were rewarded for their patience when he finally shed his maiden tag in the Ellen's Pub Maugherow Handicap Hurdle at Sligo.
Conor Maxwell, aboard Some Drama for many of his previous starts, got it exactly right on this occasion, as he brought through the eight-year-old son of Spartacus with a strong late run to touch off Personal Shopper by a head.
Winning trainer Dermot McLoughlin acknowledged: "That was a while coming. He has a good cruising speed but you have to drop him on the line.
"He has a good engine, and maybe he'll jump a fence.
"Conor knows him well and arrived at the right time. He gave him a good ride."
The Stewards interviewed S. Fox, rider of Pennys Tune concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found S. Fox in breach of Reg 10 3.(b) by continuing to use his whip after his chance of winning or being placed was gone and having taken his record into account the Stewards suspended him for one race day.
