Smullen shines on Gandolfini
Pat Smullen shone on Gandolfini as he powered home to land the Foley's Bar & Off Licence Handicap at Sligo.
Harry Rogers' charge was keen in the early stages as he was restrained in mid-division.
The seven-year-old came with a strong run to lead inside the final furlong and record a length-and-a-quarter success over Thats A Fret
"He probably deserved that. He ran well at Cork last time when it was too short of a trip for him," said Rogers.
"The ground helped as he likes a good ease. That's why he (Smullen) is champion jockey. It's unfortunate for Daryl (Byrne) though who couldn't do the weight.
"I might run him again at the Curragh this weekend over six furlongs."
