- Shock win for Baracas
Shock win for Baracas
Baracas caused a 33/1 shock when taking the valuable INH Stallion Owners EBF Novice Handicap Hurdle Series Final.
The three miles stamina test provided an incident-packed finish, with Mark Bolger's mount edged right at the last causing Jack Bene (14/1) in turn to check the staying on Sir Vincent (12/1).
Baracas kept on under pressure to hold the renewed effort of Sir Vincent by a length and a quarter, with Jack Bene just a neck away in third and Start Me Up (16/1) keeping on late close-up in fourth.
The placings were only confirmed following a stewards enquiry.
Barry Geraghty was stood down for the rmainder of the afternoon with a soft tissue injury after taking a nasty looking fall from Good Time Donie
Winning trainer Eoin Griffin said: “The secret is getting him to relax and Mark did that well. He has to have good ground so hopefully we'll have a good summer with him. He's probably going to go over fences as early as next month. He runs best fresh and the Flat tends to light him up a bit, so we'll keep him to jumps for the time being.”
