Shariyan landed a nice touch when claiming the handicap hurdle at Leopardstown this afternoon.
Colm Murphy 's gelding was making his first start since February but was supported this morning from 12/1. The gamble continued on course as he was backed from 6/1 into 4/1 favourite.
Robbie Power produced his mount to lead at the last and he galloped on well on the run-in to record a comprehensive three-and-a-half length success over Blazing Sonnet
“I'm absolutely delighted as he's been so frustrating,” said Murphy.
“He's had so many little things wrong with him but he was good today. We'll see what the handicapper does now.
“He probably wouldn't want it any softer. We've been a long time waiting and please god he's ok after as he's very fragile.
“I would have been disappointed if he hadn't have won but it was a competitive handicap so you can't be too confident.”
