The Dermot Weld trained, Aga Khan owned Shamreen made it third time lucky to win the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden at Gowran today, winning under jockey Pat Smullen.
Shamreen, a daughter of Dubawi, made all the running and in the end stayed on well for a two and a quarter lengths win over Shes An Art
Weld later commented “the maiden she was second in at Leopardstown was a very strong race and that was a good workmanlike performance today; she's a filly I like.
"She is beautifully bred and progressive and I hope to get black type with her during the year. She's very relaxed and genuine.
"That sort of trip is about right for her, and she would always appreciate a little ease in the ground."
