Apprentice jockey Luke Dempsey recorded his second career win, and his second in three days, when steering Spirituality to win the Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey & Trainer Championship Maiden at Dundalk this evening for the Tommy Carmody/Andrew Tinkler axis.
Sixteen year old Dempsey, son of ex-amateur jockey turned trainer Philip Dempsey, rides with extraordinary strength for someone of his age and for the second time in three days, made all to record his win.
Much has been made of jockey Johnny Murtagh's relationship with the new Carmody/Tinkler combination in recent months and it was the former Champion Jockey who was on hand to reveal “Tommy (Carmody) is at home this evening; this horse kicked him and broke his arm so he owed him this one!
“Spirituality has been running consistently well, the big claim was a help and Luke is a very good 10lbs claimer.”
Kevin Manning received a two-day ban involving an incident in the home straight involving his mount Hudson Bay, who finished third, and Dark Pulse who was unplaced. The stewards were of the opinion that Manning had ridden carelessly.
