Stepping up in trip has proved just the ticket for Beau Satchel as Ado McGuinness’ charge made it two wins in nine days when landing the St John’s Literary Centre Handicap at Listowel.
The four-year-old gelding was without a win in a previous sprint campaign comprising 11 starts but added to a recent seven-furlong Cork success by getting up close home here over a mile.
Declan McDonogh was again on board the 4/1 chance who led just over 100 yards out and kept on well to beat top-weight Dragon Khan by a length. Harmonie was a further three quarters of a length back in third.
McGuinness said, “I was very close to not running him as that’s as quick as he’d want it. Declan said he just got away with it.
“I’ve always said that he was a good horse. Everyone that rode him said he was a sprinter but he’s stepped up in trip and seems to like it.”
