The Tom McCourt trained Ben Rumson under Ronan Whelan, defied a dreadful draw in 18 to win the concluding fairyhouse.ie Handicap at Fairyhouse today and follow up a recent course and distance win, albeit from a kinder draw, at the venue last month.
The son of Ask gained a second career win at the Meath course in June when racing from an inside draw in 2, but today followed up under another patient Whelan ride, arriving late to beat Dark Amber by a neck.
McCourt later stated “he’d a wide draw so we had to drop in behind but they went a nice gallop which made all the difference. When he won here the last day we said we’d come back.
“He’s entered in Bellewstown on Saturday in a hurdle race - it’s only up the road, and we’ll see how he is after this.”
