Red strikes right Key at Clonmel
John O'Shea's Red Key caused a 33/1 upset to win the Laganore Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel today, providing jockey Sean 'Boppy' McDermott with his fifth winner of the season.
The daughter of Key Of Luck raced prominently throughout before improving to lead two out, eventually staying on well to win by a length and three parts over Clarach
Red Key, formerly in the care of Eddie Lynam and ownership of Lady O'Reilly on the Flat last year, was described by O'Shea as “an athletic sort. She was sick for some time after her last run at Killarney and hopefully she will improve from today. She wouldn't like heavy ground and may stick to mares' races for the time being.”
