Review ROSCOMMON 29th Sep
Classy hurdler Kalderon maintained his unbeaten record over fences with a second victory from two starts in the Kilbegnet EBF Novice Chase, but he was a lucky winner.< Dreamy Gent made virtually all and held a clear advantage under Barry Geraghty when he crashed out at the last obstacle, leaving the way clear for Kalderon.
The Tom Hogan-trained 9-4 favourite won comfortably in the end, Paul Carberry easing him over the line with a four-length advantage over Holly Tree < On The Other Hand back over fences for the first time in over a year, ran out a gutsy winner of the Kiltoom Handicap Chase.
Charlie Swan's gelding was never far off the pace and took over from Luxi River approaching the last, where he held a narrow lead.
David Casey kept the 10-1 shot going to score by a length, with the fast-finishing Mutineer taking second close home.
Dermot Weld introduced a promising youngster in the Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned Maziona (7-1) in the seven-furlong Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.
A half-sister to smart stayer The Geezer, the filly had plenty to do as they entered the final two furlongs but answered every call from Pat Smullen to pick up the leaders late on and beat favourite Sioduil by a cosy three-quarters of a length.< Shanghai Star (14-1) gave Willie Mullins a winner on the level in the mile-and-a-half Ballyleague Maiden and could have a future in the jumping sphere.
The four-year-old was going best of all entering the final two furlongs but Seamus Heffernan had to wait for a gap to appear before pushing on to score by a length from Dawal
David Myerscough's Shinkansen (20-1) was an emphatic winner of the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap, scooting clear in the straight before being eased down by Padraig Beggy for a three-length success.
