Garvan Donnelly completed a double on the evening as Lily’s Prince took division two of the Dundalk Stadium — Light Up Your Night Handicap.
The six-year-old gelding has been a great servant to Donnelly and owner Martin Sheridan winning seven times, although he was bridging a gap of over 14 months since his previous success.
The 11/2 chance travelled well to head the front-running Emperor Bob a furlong out, although Colin Keane needed to get serious inside the final furlong.
He found enough under pressure to score by two lengths, with 6/4 favourite Cresendo getting the better of Emperor Bob for the minor honours.
The Garristown trainer was on the mark earlier with 8/1 shot Carrigeen Prince ridden by Donagh O’Connor.
Donnelly said, "“He deserved it. In fairness he’s been knocking on the door all summer. We persevered and Martin is a great owner. He’s so patient and always lets me do my own thing.
“I thought the last day he would have won and said we’d give it one more go up here. He is just a bit stiff after running as it’s quick enough for him out there.
“Every time I come up here I say I’ll give him a break after it but we’ll see how he comes out of it and make hay while the sun shines.
“It was a good night. It’s the same colours and Martin is involved in the two of them. I told him during the week we’d have a double.”
