Patience pays off with Caprella
Paul Deegan was quite sweet on Caprella (10s this morning into 11/2) in a stable tour as far back as April and the money came for the daughter of Kheleyf on her debut in division one of the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Median Auction Maiden at Dundalk. The support proved to be well justified as Willie Supple brought the juvenile home a comfortable enough victor of the seven furlong contest.
Travelling sweetly throughout close to the pace, Caprella (a full sister to Song Of Time, won a maiden for Deegan & Supple at Naas in June 2010) got a lovely ride from Supple and she did enough at the business end to account for the well-backed favourite, That's Plenty (reared leaving stalls but recovered to soon track leaders) by half a length.
Deegan said: "I think she's a smart filly. Obviously she's a full-sister to Song Of Time and we had her in the first tonight but we didn't declare her.
"This is probably a better filly as she has a lot of pace. She is still a bit weak and that could be it for her for the year.
"She'll probably go back to the owners now for the winter. She'll be a nice filly next year when she fills into her frame.
"The owner, Evelyn Yates is new to us. She is Scottish and we're delighted to have her.
"She bought the mare when she was carrying this one.
"Caprella was ready earlier on but she had a little hold-up and Evelyn has been very patient.
"She is a filly that can be idle enough when she hits the front and it is the same with her at home. She was professional though."
