The Matthew Smith trained Miracle Way (40/1) came to the rescue of bookmakers in the concluding ’Your Name Here' Bumper at Downpatrick today, providing 23 year old jockey Ross O’Sullivan with his second career winner, three and a half years since his first.
Four of the earlier six races were won by favourites but it was the turn of Miracle Way in the finale, when scored an eight and a half lengths win over fellow outsider Ciaoifsin
The daughter of Stowaway had been largely ignored in her four outings todate, having being beaten at odds of 33/1, 100/1 and 50/1 and following today’s 40/1 win, Smith stated “I'm a bit speechless to be honest with you! She was very green her first run or two and I thought she would run a good race the last day when she was brought down.
“She has been improving with every run and has improved at home big time. I did expect her to run well now but I didn't expect her to do that.”
Miracle Way’s owner Aasa Bergquist is a vet from Sweden while jockey O'Sullivan's only previous winner came on Smith's Gretzky at Dundalk in January 2013.
